The fog and dog of war!

DISCOURAGED FORWARD! Junior Cape Crusaders Worldwide and our new trusty side-kick Psychotic and Homicidal Lynn Thomas of COWS BLOG!

Well gang there is nothing new really to report. Jack is still hanging loose screaming he's been framed. Harpo Bennett is still waiting hand and foot on Jackbo, Eddy Caraballo is taking heat from the Jackbo forces and our trusty side-kick psychotic and homicidal Lynn Thomas is as demented as ever, but we did run across this August 21, 2004 Asian Times Report that we some how missed. So for your Jackbo enjoyment we present;

The fog and dog of war

By David Isenberg

The continuing saga of Jonathan Keith "Jack" Idema, bounty hunter and vigilante extraordinaire in a theatrical sort of way, lurched from the merely absurd, and occasionally farcical, to the surreal this week as his trial got under way in Afghanistan. Idema is the ringleader of a trio of Americans arrested in Kabul for conducting a self-appointed, freelance so-called counter-terrorism mission that included holding eight Afghans in a private jail. He faces charges of kidnapping, imprisoning and torturing Afghans. The two other Americans are Edward Caraballo, a cameraman who was making a documentary, and Brett Bennett, another former soldier. Four Afghans employed by Idema are also on trial.

Ironically, Caraballo was part of a TV movie team that has been struggling since 1994 to tell and sell Idema's life story. The project's working title was "Loose Cannon: The Keith Idema Story". Idema is a, barely, former Green Beret. After three years' service more than 20 years ago he was ordered never to re-enlist again.

He claims to have links with Afghan militia forces. He first appeared in Afghanistan in the winter of 2001 when US and allied Afghan forces routed the Taliban. He made a living offering his services to Western television networks, including a videotape showing a purported al-Qaeda training facility near Kabul, and later prominently featured in a top-selling, albeit highly sensational and somewhat ludicrous, book by Robin Moore called The Hunt for bin Laden.

Idema has been called colorful, but that does not begin to do him justice. Bloggers such as Flogging the Simian who have followed his career closely note that his past achievements, to name just a few, include claiming proof of an Iraq-al Qaeda connection; miraculously finding evidence that al-Qaeda was planning to assassinate then US president Bill Clinton; and running, with his girlfriend, a business called "Special Operations Exposition & Trade Show Inc", for which he was convicted of defrauding companies of about US$270,000 worth of merchandise. The two of them set up a series of false companies to get credit in order to get supplies to send to their customers.

Idema served prison time for that, which seems appropriate considering he now faces up to 20 years' imprisonment in Afghanistan. Calling Idema a glory hound understates the case. His need for publicity seems almost pathological. He has assiduously courted attention from the news media and has appeared in interviews on major networks, including CBS's 60 Minutes II and Fox News, and was even a news analyst for the latter for a time. He also received a 2001 National Press Club award for online journalism.

Now meet Robert Young Pelton, an adventurer who makes it a habit of going where most people fear to tread, ie, war and conflict zones. Pelton is the author of the well-known travel guide World's Most Dangerous Places and host of a show by the same name on the Discovery network. He is also the author of an upcoming book on private military contractors, due out next year from Crown Books. In his travels Pelton has been in Afghanistan many times, for both National Geographic and CNN, and is familiar with the saga of Idema.

He has reason to be. After US forces overthrew the Taliban in 2001, Pelton scored the first interview with wanna-be jihadi Johnny Walker Lindh. Subsequently, Lindh's lawyers tried to convince the US court where Lindh was tried that Pelton was a government agent. According to Pelton, National Geographic TV was supposed to send him into Afghanistan, but aborted the gig when Gary Scurka, the producer, was wounded. But it appears that Idema claimed the TV crew was actually "contracting officers from the Defense Department".

Pelton says Idema entered the country because of the National Geographic gig and spent months trying to convince people he was a government spy. In an e-mail from his California home, Pelton wrote, "And to make it sillier ... I was shooting a doco [documentary] on looking for [Osama] bin laden with the CIA [Central Intelligence Agency] and Task Force 121 in the tribal areas and Idema was shooting a doco of him playing whack a mole with Pashtuns in Kabul looking for bin laden." This week, Pelton said he has obtained a document dated November 2, 2001.

It is a letter from the US Embassy in Tashkent to the Uzbek Foreign Affairs Office to obtain a four-year multiple-entry visa on behalf of three individuals. One is Idema, the other is National Geographic cameraman Scurka, and the other is a non-governmental-organization staffer and former US military person. Idema and Scurka were working for the National Geographic Television Division and had flown to Uzbekistan without visas.

Idema lied to the embassy and it phoned an active military person who vouched for Idema, probably not knowing that Idema had lied about the real purpose of their trip (claiming that he wanted to make a documentary). In an e-mail that Pelton sent from his home he notes that the important thing is this letter from the US Embassy, which describes them as "contracting officers from the Defense Department who arrived to the Republic of Uzbekistan for an official trip".

Pelton says Idema then used those letters and what appears to be falsified or modified military ID to convince the Afghan commanders and other people of his official status. So the Pentagon is right when it says it had not sanctioned the activities of Idema and his colleagues. It appears it was the State Department that sanctioned him by providing a visa, even if it was obtained by his lying. Pelton wrote, "I can tell you that the DoD [Department of Defense] and the people I associate with have known about Idema and have been looking to apprehend him for at least three-and-half years."

David Isenberg, a senior analyst with the Washington-based British American Security Information Council (BASIC), has a wide background in arms-control and national-security issues. The views expressed are his own.

TGIF, our new Side-Kick and Pay-Pal for illicit funds?

DISCOURAGED FORWARD! Junior Cape Crusaders Worldwide and our new trusty side-kick Psychotic and Homicidal Lynn Thomas of COWS BLOG!

Thank God Its Friday! Thank God For Freedom and Thank God for the Men and Women In the U.S. Military!

Yes Junior Cape Crusaders we have once again made an executive decision and relieved Ed Caraballo of his duties as our trusty side-kick without prejudice and inserted
Psychotic and Homicidal Lynn Thomas as our new trusty-side kick. We thought long and hard about this appointment and decided that Psychotic and Homicidal Lynn Thomas is such a pain in the pachuca that she deserves this nomination. Especially since she has taken over blogging for her lover-hero Jackbo until he can find a way to fork over some cash to get his sat-phone back.

In honor of new appointment we once again shall take a look at Psychotic and Homicidal Lynn Thomas's Psychotic and Homicidal writings in COWS BLOG!
"First off, we have some good news. After two anxious weeks without hearing from the three Americans illegally-imprisoned in Afghanistan, the SuperPatriots have finally been able to confirm that Jack Idema, Brent Bennett and Ed Caraballo are doing okay. "
Here is news.....sleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeper....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! Hell everyone has reported their fine. Your just catching on now?
"Well, actually, Jack and Brent are doing more than just ‘okay’ — They’re well-protected by friends from the Northern Alliance and, in spite of the Karzai government’s attempts to house terrorists alongside them, still have their quarters in the annex very much to themselves."
Yep of course Karazi wanted to put terrorists next to Jack and that is exactly what was reported right? Wrong! Thats the excellent supported research that our trusty-side kick Psychotic and Homicidal Lynn Thomas actually performs.. So Thomas besides coming from Jackbo and maybe his idiot lawyer care to show the world where that came from? What an idiot! That is why we selected her....

Protected by the Northern Alliance.....Excuse us Psychotic and Homicidal Lynn Thomas, there is no more Northern Alliance or ..eh... Northern Front...... What this so-called protective force of Jackbo's is a daydream and nothing more than a bunch of bandits and renegades and if Jackbo is being protected by anything resembling the Northern Alliance then your chest size makes Dolly Parton look flat! Now Jackbo if you really need protection all you need to do his get Tiffany to free up some bucks and presto instant protection!

Now we get to the good part........

"Jack’s and the NA’s best efforts notwithstanding, though, one person who isn’t doing so well is Ed Caraballo:"But Caraballo, an Emmy Award-winning cameraman who said he was filming a documentary on the two others when they all were arrested, has been attacking prison guards and acting unstable, officials said. […] Caraballo, who has converted to Islam and now goes by the name Najib, split from the men and lives separately, in Cellblock 1. Almost three weeks ago, prisoners rioted and seized control of Cellblock 2 and tried to take over Cellblock 1. Many were said to be Al Qaeda and members of the Taliban. During the riot, Caraballo used his mobile phone to call reporters and say he was about to be beheaded.Certainly, Ed’s mental state has become a major concern of late — Last week he even attempted to run out of the prison compound and had to be forcibly restrained. Right now, he is being kept under close watch by Northern Alliance personnel, who are becoming extremely concerned about Ed’s state of mind."
Whats with the attempt to discredit Eddy Caraballo? Guess Jackbo is still fuming that Caraballo got on 360 and the only one who got Jackbo was our trusty side-kick Psychotic and Homicidal Lynn Thomas! Now we start with the slander on Caraballo.... She goes on....
"Certainly, Ed’s mental state has become a major concern of late — Last week he even attempted to run out of the prison compound and had to be forcibly restrained. Right now, he is being kept under close watch by Northern Alliance personnel, who are becoming extremely concerned about Ed’s state of mind. "
And Jacbo's mental state is what stable? Tried to run out of the compound? So now that Caraballo has trumped Jackbo its time to question his mental stability.... Nice projection........lets start destroying Caraballo now....Right Psychotic and Homicidal Lynn Thomas? Hell if anyones mental stability is in question its yours! WoW! Talk about the pot calling the kettle black...

Now here is a killer......

"
So what can we do? Well, anyone reading this with their own blog can sign up for the weekly Free Jack Idema Blogburst by emailing Cao or Rottweiler Puppy for details. There’s also a timeline here, and, of course, a huge amount of information is available over at SuperPatriots, without whose work none of us would have learned about Jack’s story."

I’d urge everyone to do this, as we’re still terribly short on takers? Really we wonder why? How about ... people know your full of it? People know Jacbo's full of it? People know you blog with a brain like a chimps? How about people don't care about Jacbo, since he got exactly what he deserves!

Duckspeak Equals JackLynnspeak!

DISCOURAGED FORWARD! Junior Cape Crusaders Worldwide and our new trusty-side kick Award Winning Journalist Ed Caraballo!

We sometimes wonder why we even bother to reply to the diatribes of Lynn Thomas and COWS BLOG! I suppose because someone has to do it! It is remarkable how both Idema's and Thomas's personalities or deformity's are so much alike. Both are psychotic and both attack those oppose with slander, innuendos, assumptions and plain stupidity in a ridiculous attempt to mask and offset their own poor lack of judgement and truth. Just take a look at Jackbo's wed-site. All those listed are people who either were responsible for putting him in jail or investigated ole Jackbo. The fact that he violated law, lied and abused people seems to be the furthest thing from his mind. Of course movie stardom is always on his mind. Jackbo rails making claim that Karazi is a terrorists and traitor! Well Jack did the same thing to the Judge who convicted him of 56 counts of wire fraud.

You can say the same applies to psychotic homicidal Lynn Thomas, who if she was ever chosen as a poster-gal it would be for the justification of spousal abuse.... Let's take a look at one of her latest attack posts, now that she does not have her lover-hero writing her blog.

" Mujaddedi blown up

By: Cao in: General, Terrorism and Islam, Task Force Sabre 7 Permalink

If you're looking for pieces on Jack Idema and his team, please click on this link. And for Kathryn Cramer who says my blog is full of references to "homocide and revenge"…yeah. This is real world stuff we're talking about over here–not some deluded fantasy called 'all you need is love' bullcrap. We're talking about real and horrible violent crimes. Yeah. Like murder. Your 'freedom fighters' perpetrate these crimes against women prisoners at Pulacharke…and this is how the Afghans feel about people like Mujaddedi and Karzai who are releasing and forgiving Al Qaeda and the Taliban. Hence, there has been a lot more 'homocides' and more dead soldiers…which I'm assuming you celebrate, like your buddy, Stephen Pearcy who says "I hope
they all die".
"

Thomas would not know real world stuff if it bit her in the butt. The only real world that psychotic homicidal Lynn Thomas knows is the daydream she lives in. The daydream that causes real people like Steven Pearcy, SoJ and even the mother of Eddy Reames real harm, just like her lover-boy Jackbo attempts to do with those who oppose him and this is really why we continue to blog against Jack Idema. Its a real pain in the jack-butt but we cannot and will not allow two psychotic homicidal idiots to continue to tarnish others just to propel lies. Thomas states she has proof because she knows how to research! She Googles! She see everything printed on the internet as fact without any verification what so eve.

Let's take a look....

It's also about defending ourselves from terrorists. You remember, don't you, those guys who ran the airplanes into the towers in New York???? Oh that's right, there 'is no terrorist threat'! Well I'm here to tell you there is, and it's very real, and these people are murdering people and raping women, whether you want to see it or not. Thankfully, there are some few people in the world who are willing to see what's going on and do something about it–like Jack Idema (who's highly trained to do this work, and he's in prison. Nice way to fight the war on terror, don't you think?)."

Its also about defending ourselves from terrorists.... Again Lynn Thomas would not know a terrorist if one was holding a gun at her head. Hell Jackbo thought that any Afghan male with a long beard was a terrorist. Besides Lynn this is what Jackbo is really really trained for...

So Lynn like her hunter-terrorist killer- lover begins the insults.

Cramer your a sissy, your stupid, you have no clue....
Hey Thomas, Kathryn Cramer is a well published writer and author. Her husband is a highly celebrated writer and editor. Matter of fact we understand that one of Cramers lastest research projects which she blogged has been picked up by a reporter and is shortly going to make it into a leading New York City magazine. Cramer researches and then cross-checks her information with independent experts. You just google getting those wires in your head crossed and blog what ever that warped mind of yours thinks is reality without even bothering to fact check outside what ever is posted on the Internet. Hell they can teach monkey's to do that, and it looks like they have! So thomas when was the last time a major newspaper, magazine or even a book ever printed anything you wrote? Besides the insane letters to the editors you are noted for...

And there is another example of psychotic homicidal Lynn Thomas's blogging's......

Happy New YearAfghanistan

If you're looking for pieces on Jack Idema and his team, please click on this link . It is now officially, 1385 on the Afghan Calendar. The new year was rung in with great news for those that believe in freedom, justice, and liberty overall.

The Afghan Parliament announced today, at 6pm Kabul time, that they were through with Taliban Puppet Hamid Karzai's delays. After three months of begging, pleading, bribes, and crying by the US State Department and US Ambassador, the Parliament will announce the new cabinet within four days. Karzai was warned by Prime Minister Yunis Qanooni that if he delays again, or interferes, it will be regarded as a "direct insult to the elected Parliament" hich in Afghan language means that the Parliament could then force a "NO CONFIDENCE" vote against Karzai, and hold him accountable for treason under the new Constitution. The statements aired on Tolo TV, Ariana TV and other channels. Not a single western journalist has reported it or picked up on it. You would think Barkie would have given it a shot, lol..

Barkie? Well let's take a look and some of the fact checking and verification psychotic homicidal Lynn Thomas does. " "Karzai was warned by Prime Minister Yunis Qanooni"....." NO CONFIDENCE vote"...... Taliban Puppet Hamid Karazi".....

Well Thomas you psychotic homicidal wacko-job! First, Yunis Qanooni is NOT the Prime Minister he is the Speaker of the Parliament. The Afghans DON'T have a Prime Minister. Second Qanooni talk about a no confidence is duckspeak! under the Afghan Constitution you can't have a binding vote of no confidence regarding in the office of President, only in the Prime Minister and DoH! The Afghan's don't have one! The main point is that Karazi can't find someone to hold the office of Prime Minister that the Parliament will agree too.... Good real fact checking...... Barkie Thomas you psychotic homicidal wacko-job!

Here try taking your head out of your insane butt and reading a REAL analysis of what is happening in Afghanistan with the Parliament! Parliament Makes Little Headway.....Get it Thomas?

We also direct your attention too:

"Political analyst Mohammad Hassan Wolesmal believes Karzai ultimately holds the upper hand in any dispute with parliament."

Hey how about some Good Afghan News for once in a while? Not everything is falling apart though its a trying time in Afghanistan right now.

Now let's take a look at Jackbo and Thomas rail as they boast......Karazi the Taliban puppet.....We direct your attention to the people that Jackbo supports, as presented by Human Rights Watch!

We will also focus you on this report from the Economist and of course Jackbo and his psychotic homicidal lover Lynn Thomas would never dare print that many of these former mujahideen and Taliban commanders, communists, tribal dictators are Jackbo's best buddies....

Afghanistan's new parliament
Jan 5th 2006 From The Economist print edition

"AFTER three weeks in business, Afghanistan's new parliament, the country's first for three decades, oozes goodwill and echoes with calls for national unity. Not bad for a congress of former mujahideen and Taliban commanders, communists, tribal dictators and urban professionals. But how long will it last?… "

Karazi has to deal with the hand he was dealt to attempt to stabilize his Country. Like it or not and it maybe a death hand to play with. But unlike both psychotic homicidal Lynn Thomas and psychotic Jackbo they rather rail against the forces of good and support the forces of evil just because Jack Idema walked into Afghanistan the fake and phony he is and made his bed [again] and now does not like it!

Get this Jack... It will be a "slam dunk" at your U.S. Trial...coming to a Federal Court near you soon........

Lastly, locks like there was a bleeding of the Panjshiris...

Major reshuffle in cabinet as Karzai approves final list
By Danish KarokhelKABUL,

Foreign Minister Dr Abdullah Abdullah is out as the list of new Afghan cabinet was finalised by President Hamid Karzai on Wednesday, which is likely to be presented before the Wolesi Jirga (lower house of parliament) for approval on Thursday. Of the 25-member newly-proposed cabinet, fourteen are those who were ministers in the old set up. Portfolios of three ministers have been changed, while eight new faces have been inducted in the final list, which received green signal from President Hamid Karzai on Wednesday.

Besides the large-scale reshuffling and new induction, replacement of Dr Abdullah Abdullah and appointment of Interior Minister are the most important changes introduced under the new arrangements. The new names included in the list are: Dr Rangin Dadfar Spanta (Foreign Affairs), engineer Zarar Ahmad Moqbil (Interior Minister), Ihsan Zia (MRRD), Gul Hussain Ahmadi (Transport and Aviations), Ustad Akbar Akbar (Refugees Affairs), engineer Ibrahim Adil (Mines), Dr Surya Rahim Subhrang (Women Affairs) and Dr Mohammad Haidar Reza (Commerce and Industries). A source privy to the whole affair told Pajhwok Afghan News, Foreign Minister Dr Abdullah Abdullah has been replaced by Dr Rangin Dadfar Spanta, who was presently working as President Karzai's advisor on international affairs. The portfolio of Interior Ministry, which was lying vacant for the past few months after resignation of the then minister Ali Ahmad Jalali on September 27, 2005, has been handed over to engineer Zarar Ahmad Moqbil, who was working as acting minister till now. The source said another new name is Gul Hussain Ahmadi, who was presently performing the duty of first secretary at the Afghan embassy in India. Ahmadi will take charge of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation by replacing Enayatullah Qasemi. The charge of Ministry of Mines has been handed over to engineer Ibrahim Adil by removing the existing minister Mir Mohammad Siddiq.

The latter has not offered new portfolio, confided the source.Minister for Refugees Affairs Dr Azam Dadfar has been assigned the responsibility of the Ministry of Higher Education while Ustad Akbar Akbar has been picked as Minister for Refugees' Affairs. The charge of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD) has been given to Ihsan Zia by replacing Hanif Atmar, who has been reshuffled as Education Minister in the new set up.A new portfolio of Senior Minister has been created for the existing Commerce Minister Hidayat Amin Arsala, whose seat (Ministry of Commerce and Industries) has been handed over to Dr Mohammad Haidar Reza.

Two ministries for Martyrs, Disabled, and Social Affairs have been merged by creating a single ministry to be called the Ministry of Martyrs, Disabled and Social Affairs, the charge of which has been given to the Education Minister Noor Mohammad Qarqin. According to the list, ministers who have retained their seats included Defence Minister Abdul Rahim Wardak, Finance Minister Dr Anwarul Haq Ahadi, Justice Minister Sarwar Danish, Communication Minister Amirzai Sangin, Public Health Minister Dr Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatimi, Economy and Labour Minister Mir Mohammad Amin Farhang, Minister of Culture and Youth Affairs Dr Makhdoom Rahin, Urban Development Minister Yousaf Pashtun, Public Works Minister Dr Sohrab Ali Safari, Water and Energy Minister Ismail Khan, Tribal Affairs Minister Karim Barahvi, Haj and Auqaf Minister Nematullah Shahrani, Minister for Counter-Narcotics Habibullah Qadiri and Agriculture and Irrigation Minister Obaidullah Ramin.

The former Trade Minister Hidayat Amin Arsala has been nominated as Senior Minister of State, who will oversee the advisory team of President Hamid Karzai. Dr Farooq Wardak, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs has also been retained his seat. Besides Foreign Minister Dr Abdullah, other outgoing ministers included Dr Masouda Jalal, Minister for Women Affairs, Mir Mohammad Siddiq, Minister for Mines and Industries, Enayatullah Qasemi, Minister for Transport and Aviations, Higher Education Minister Amir Shah Hasanyar and Labour and Social Affairs Minister Ikramuddin Masoumi.

The Panjshiris? Guess Mohammad Hassan Wolesmal was right! Oh to bad Jackbo did your adopted Afghan family get booted from the Parliament? Maybe you should become a bad soldier and maybe the Afghans will pay off everyone just to get you off their backs....

Ah...of course the FBI is awaiting your return too.....

Jack Kabul Coup?

DISCOURAGED FORWARD! Junior Cape Crusaders Worldwide and our new trusty-side kick Award Winning Journalist Ed Caraballo!

Well according to that gas-bag Lynn Thomas of COWS BLOG !

"The Afghan Parliament announced today, at 6pm Kabul time, that they were through with Taliban Puppet Hamid Karzai's delays. After three months of begging, pleading, bribes, and crying by the US State Department and US Ambassador, the Parliament will announce the new cabinet within four days. The statements aired on Tolo TV, Ariana TV and other channels. Not a single western journalist has reported it or picked up on it. You would think Barkie would have given it a shot, lol.. "

Of course Jack would just love to have Karazi tried for treason. But of course this is a re-write of history Jackbo style..... and of course the people that Jack and his gas-bag lover-gal Thomas support also support the Iranians. You know those Lovable Iranians. The ones who brought you the 1983 Beirut barracks bombing , the The Daharan Bombing, Kohbar Towers and of course the USS Cole ... Lets not talk about Iran's support of those charitable organizations like Hamas and Hizballah! Oh yeah AQ too....

So since Lynn and Jackbo are making light of a very serious situation in Afghanistan let us correct the record for you. From Economist.com

Afghanistan's politics
Feb 3rd 2006 From Economist.com

Despite the overthrow of the Taliban, Afghanistan's political situation remains precarious. A new constitution establishing an Islamic republic was approved in January 2004. Later that year, Hamid Karzai, who led the country's interim government, won Afghanistan's first ever direct election for president. Yet his power is limited: Mr Karzai's government is riven by ethic divisions and its control outside the capital, Kabul, is partial.

To help
rebuild Afghanistan, rich countries promised $4.5 billion of aid in January 2002 and the same again in March 2004. Mr Karzai is trying to build a national army and the UN is leading efforts to clear millions of landmines. The pursuit of hard-core Taliban and al-Qaeda fugitives in the violent south continues, though some find refuge in Pakistan. The arrival of NATO peacekeepers in the region will, it is hoped, bring greater stability.

In
September 2005 Afghanistan held parliamentary and provincial elections that were at once chaotic and yet basically credible. How long its incongruous new parliament lasts remains to be seen.

and

"Mob violence in Herat brings Ismael Khan to mind"

EXCELLENT roads, lined with elegant pine-trees, make Herat an unusual Afghancity. So does the smart business park by the airport, its factories making chemicals, paint and tasty biscuits. This prosperity, many Heratis say, is the legacy of a former warlord-rulerof Afghanistan's western capital, Ismael Khan, who was winkled from power 18months ago, and is now a minister in Kabul.

Mr Khan, aided by his sponsors in nearby Iran, invested millions of dollars of customs revenues in the city. Alas, the government couldn't help noting that this cash was the main-indeed, almost the only-revenue stream for the entire country. As another reason to shift the white-bearded "Emir", many cited his repressive rule. Very well, Herat is replied, but could the government maintain the order to which they were accustomed? Mr Khan's successor as governor resigned within a year, in part due to discontent over loss of services which, shorn of customs-revenues, the city could no longer afford.

Last month, his replacement, Sayed Hussein Anwari, of the Shia Hazara minority, offered to resign after sectarian rioting left8 dead and 200 injured. The riot was sparked by a rumour that Sunni bannershad been desecrated by Shia youths near the city's shimmering Blue Mosque. It was quickly attended by 300 armed Sunnis astride motorbikes, flourishing banners. They led a mob of several thousand to torch three Shia mosques anda market. Followers of Mr Khan, a Sunni Tajik, are said to have stirred the violence. Fomenting chaos to discredit a rival is a favourite trick in Afghan politics; after Mr Khan was sacked, his supporters burned down UN offices.

But again, Heratis ask, if Mr Khan was to blame, can the government control him? Perhaps not: Afghanistan's new army has made strides in the past year, but its few decent battalions are fighting the Taliban in southern Afghanistan. As for the few score Italian and Spanish peacekeepers in Herat, they areamong the most timorous members of a too-feeble NATO force-though the recentdeployment of Canadian and British troops to southern Afghanistan promisesimprovement there. More worrying, the violence was more ethnic thansectarian: it was aimed not at the city's Shia Persians, a well-establishedcommunity, but at a poor horde of Shia Hazaras, most of whom arrived recently from refugee camps in Iran.

During the riot, Sunni bikers chanted: "Death to Hazaras!"This was perhaps a response to their new strength. Traditionally scorned, and massacred by the Taliban, the Hazaras were well-organised during two recent elections, winning unprecedented power for their champions. Yet the violence had worrying echoes of the ethnic slaughter that was a feature of Afghanistan's long civil war, and has been perhaps surprisingly absent from the country's current precarious politics. To ease tensions in Herat, the government has appointed a commission to investigate the riots. It is headed by Mr Khan.

Yep! These are guy's Jack wants in power..... Mr Khan and his friends..... Bet they will release Jack ya think? You just don't know how good you really got it ..eh Jackbo? So where chaos survives you bet you can find Jackbo running a scam!

The question is Jackbo....How long its incongruous new parliament lasts remains to be seen? 2009 is a long time to be swinging from bars......

Afghan jailers want to unload gang of 3
Keping Americans safe called a `hassle
By Kim Barker Chicago Tribune March 18, 2006

PUL-ICHARKHI, Afghanistan -- For the men who run Afghanistan's biggest prison, the toughest challenge is not the occasional prison break, Al Qaeda and Taliban inmates or the recent riots. Instead, it's the three Americans.

"They are becoming a hassle for us these days," said Maj. Gen. Shahmir Amirpoor, commander of Pul-i-Charkhi prison, just outside the capital city of Kabul. "I think it's time for them to go back to their own country."

The three men--former soldiers Jonathan Keith "Jack" Idema and Brent Bennett and cameraman Edward Caraballo--were arrested in July 2004 on charges of running a private jail and torturing prisoners in their own war on terrorism. They said they were hunting terrorists in a U.S.-sanctioned operation but were convicted in a bizarre trial that seemed to overwhelm Afghanistan's fledgling legal system.

Since then the men have lived in the prison, a concrete-and-brick monstrosity scarred by bullets and rockets and filled with more than 2,000 inmates. The Americans live in much nicer surroundings than the other inmates and have enjoyed special privileges, such as mobile phones and computers.

"The government asked me what facilities we should give them," said Maulavi Muhammad Siddiq Moslim, who works in the Afghan Supreme Court and was held prisoner for 12 days at Idema's makeshift prison. "I told them, `The best.' We should give them the best facilities possible."

But a recent prison riot has highlighted their situation and prompted prison officials to crack down on their privileges. Afghan officials say they have asked the U.S. to take the men back home or allow them to be released early, even though they were convicted under Afghan law. The officials and guards say they are worried about the men's security and mental health, chiefly Caraballo's.

U.S. Embassy spokesman Lou Fintor said he is not allowed to comment on the men.
Prison officials described Idema--an ex-soldier who had undergone Special Forces training and was the group's ringleader--as quiet and obedient. "A good soldier," Amirpoor said.
But Caraballo, an Emmy Award-winning cameraman who said he was filming a documentary on the two others when they all were arrested, has been attacking prison guards and acting unstable, officials said.

Idema, Bennett and their Afghan translator share one wing of Cellblock 4, in plush surroundings by most prison standards, with Oriental carpets and hand-carved sofas. A Web site supporting the men and featuring pictures of them inside their "cell" quoted Idema as saying last year that he could drink alcohol and had "a laptop, a phone, private bedroom, private bathroom, two houseboys, one water boy, satellite TV with the Playboy Channel," along with other amenities.═
About 550 prisoners share the opposite wing, guards said. Caraballo, who has converted to Islam and now goes by the name Najib, split from the men and lives separately, in Cellblock 1.

Center stage during riots.

Almost three weeks ago, prisoners rioted and seized control of Cellblock 2 and tried to take over Cellblock 1. Many were said to be Al Qaeda and members of the Taliban. During the riot, Caraballo used his mobile phone to call reporters and say he was about to be beheaded. Meanwhile, the Web site supporting the men said it had received reports that Caraballo had joined the terrorists, maybe out of self-preservation, and was yelling the Arabic phrase for "God is great" with them. At another point, Caraballo was described as a hostage, a tool used by the terrorists.

Prison officials said he never was in danger.

"He pretended he was one of those guys," said Gen. Abdullah Azizi, who helps manage prisoners. "I don't know if he was mentally ill or what, or if he just wanted to show off. I tried to give him an opportunity to come out. I called his mobile phone and said, `Come out.' I said we'd take care of him and separate him from the others. He didn't come. He just hung up the phone."
The four-day riot left six people dead and dozens injured, officials said. Afterward, Amirpoor confiscated Caraballo's mobile phone and laptop and removed the satellite dish and mobile phone from Idema and Bennett. Amirpoor said he did not yet have permission from his bosses to search the men's rooms to see what else they might have.

Last week, Idema, 49, refused to comment on his imprisonment. Bennett walked out of their shared room to a locked gate and said neither wanted to talk. "I do apologize," he said, looking gaunt and wearing a Special Forces T-shirt.

`Good guys' run Web site'

Bennett, 29, said the men did not set up the Web site defending them but described the people running the site as "good guys." The site narrated the prison siege every couple of hours, occasionally including telephone reports from Idema. Caraballo, 44, also refused to talk. He is due to be released in July, Bennett in July 2007 and Idema in July 2009.

In the past year the Web site has been the only source about how the three men live. It also is crammed with information and links; here it is possible to read the Geneva Conventions, order "The Ballad of the Green Berets," see "the top 10 lie-slinging journalists" and peruse the men's various legal battles, sometimes in both English and Dari, one of Afghanistan's two national languages.

"A whirlwind is coming, and hell is coming with it," the Web site says, near a picture of Idema with his fists up and the title "Fighting Jack."

The men also thank people for various gifts, including tuna, ramen noodles, Gummi Bears, Slim Jims, blankets, gloves and Dinty Moore beef stew.

Moslim said he has visited Idema three times in his prison cell, where Idema has given him tea. Moslim said he asks Idema to repay about $13,000, to compensate for money, jewelry and possessions Moslim lost when the Americans raided his house and took him away with seven other men. But Moslim also believes the Americans were deceived about him and deserve to be released.

"I want them to have even better treatment," Moslim said. "I don't have anything against them in my heart. But Jack should pay me my money back first."

DISCOURAGED FORWARD! Junior Cape Crusaders Worldwide and our new trusty-side kick Award Winning Journalist Ed Caraballo!

Well the fishing in the Key is just great and so are the babes.... You know what babes are don't you Jack? How's Vicky doing? Or better question, who is Vicky doing these days? There is not much new. Jack is still in his cell trying to learn how to use a pencil and scheming how to run a Trans-Atlantic string from a can at his prison cell to a can at Lynn Thomas's house.. Which means that COW's Blog is still lost without Jack doing the writing for her.

"It's been two weeks now since anyone heard from Jack Idema, Brent Bennett or Ed Caraballo, the three Americans illegally imprisoned in Afghanistan. Clearly, this is a worrying situation. Those of us who've campaigned for Jack's release have never been out of touch with him for so long, and the silence is beginning to seem ominous."

Poor Lynn..sniff..sniff...sniff.... No.... Lynn the silence is golden....

We see Jack's site has the same old horse garbage on it. We laugh... CJR sued for defamation! LOL ! Jack you ain't got that much money and CJR and Columbia have some of the Countries TOP First Amendment lawyers in the business on their staff. These guys would not just eat Tiffany's lunch they would would ring his dinner bell. LOL! Lets see, what else, under investigation, fired, pending investigation, transferred out, sued, horse-hockey, bull-sheet-rock and jackcrap! Nothing new! Can't believe Jacks words and pictures? LOL! Hell Jack is a master forger! LOL! Same old Jack and cronies....

Besides its well known that Jack is off his rocker! Just take a look at Jack editorial titled the Lords of Wars"! Just prolific! Or is it psychotic? Or maybe Jack is a prolific- psychotic! These writing are one of the big reasons why Jack keeps getting his privileges taken away. But then again Jack is big tough guy . In person, Jack is just a "girly-man". Like we said all is quiet on the Afghan Front...as far as Jackbo is concerned.

Thomas still does not get it. She not just helped Jack lose his privileges, she was a prime force behind Jacks loss. But one day she will have a brain fart and figure it out.

In the meantime, we do note this posting at Flogging the Simian that might interest you. Other than that, there is nothing new! Jack is going no where real fast and will serve out his entire sentence, some of it all by his lonesome...Unless Bennett is that stupid and volunteers to stay with Jackbo.....

We will keep you posted as needed.. BTW Jack... Binny wants to say hello again.....

When you didn't think things possible!

DISCOURAGED FORWARD! Junior Cape Crusaders Worldwide and our new trusty-side kick Award Winning Journalist Ed Caraballo!

Oh Lynn.... Blog your distorted heart away! Your hero-boy did himself in using his big mouth and posting that he had weapons including a phony picture of Harpo holding one from prison. Now all you can do is rant away! We also laugh at Jacks last postings!

"Jack Gone Underground?WE ARE USING ALL OF OUR SOURCES TO CONTACT JACK- ANYONE WITH INFO ADVISEWhat happened to the Americans at Pulacharke? No one can reach them or find out. The US Embassy refuses to comment. Jack no longer answers his phone, and Ministry of Justice will not even acknowledge his whereabouts. Caraballo and Bennett have also disappeared off the face of the earth in Afghanistan. Banderas? No word on him either. Any Afghans reading this should contact Jack's Panjshir soldiers and ask them to send us an email if they have any info. A journalist from AP told us today that he heard the FBI had gone to Pulacharke with the National Police or NDS with orders from Karzai to "deal with the Americans there." What is the real story, and what happened to these guys?Messages to info@superpatriots.usSend News Tips to RD@superpatriots.us "

Hey Super Patriots! You really want to know where Jack went? These folk know where Jack went for sure! LOL gone underground! No Jackbo the FBI and State had nothing to do with your ...ah...going underground. You did that all by your little ole self! If anyone wants to get in touch with Jack and Harpo send a post card! That includes you too Tiffany!

We also came across this bit of ...ah....news! LOL!

Got to love the Syrian press! See Jack your crap drew international attention! And you want to know why you can't call home now? LOL! Someone tell these dolts that the President of the United States does not meet with convicted felons who are suing his government! LOL! BTW in case your wondering where the Syrians got this from try this RELIABLE SOURCE! What a hoot! The picture looks like something Jack would have come up with too! LOL!

"KABUL, March 2 (SANA): A visibly shaken President Bush and his entourage made an emergency landing in Kabul Afghanistan early this morning as Air Force One began experiencing significant engine problems. White House sources today stated that the engine malfunction was easily repaired and the president would be on his way tonight to continue his diplomatic trip to India and South Asia.

The White House elected to make the best of the emergency to pay a visit to President Hamid Karzai and the fledgling Afghanistan government which the US put in place of the former Taliban regime. "It worked out pretty well," stated Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, also along for the trip, "They cobbled together some red carpet and a couple of hundred soldiers as well as an appreciative local crowd, and all at the last minute."

Bush, along with the Afghan President, gave an impromptu speech to those in attendance in which he thanked the president and the country for their continued support in the war on terror. In his speech, Bush vowed that Osama bin Laden was indeed back on the radar screen and would be caught by someone, somewhere, at some point.

Bush then took the opportunity to meet with Americans Jonathan Keith Idema, Edward Caraballo, and Brett Bennett in a show of support. The three were convicted in 2004 of running their own private prison and torture chamber in Kabul. The three have steadfastly maintained that they were doing the work of the US government and not acting independently.

Caraballo had claimed recently that their lives were in danger in the Afghan prison where he is currently serving a two-year sentence. Speaking with APE reporters by cell phone, Caraballo stated that he was very optimistic after the visit by the president. He stated that he had received assurances that, "the situation is quieting down to the point where we should be able to walk out of here."

White House spokespersons steadfastly maintained that Americans were not using secret CIA sponsored prisons abroad. At the same time, they did express sympathy and appreciation for the three men and their families and what they have had to go through, and cited them as true entrepreneurs for their efforts in promoting the globalization of the war on terror".

Well talk about being a hero-boy! Dang Jack! Even the Syrians think your a hero-boy! Well Junior Cape Crusaders we have decided to take a little vacation since Jack can call home no more and we have - in the words of our - President George W. Bush (you know President Bush! The one Jack met with! LOL! ) and yes we have accomplished our mission!

But we will be monitoring Cows Blog and of course Jack Idema so if there is any breaking news or Jack buys himself out again we will of course be right on top of it. So if you are having a bad day and need a good laugh please visit Cows Blog! This is the stuff that makes Saturday Night Live look like CNN!

DISCOURAGED FORWARD! Junior Cape Crusaders Worldwide and our new trusty-side kick Award Winning Journalist Ed Caraballo!

TGIF! Thank God I'am FREE! Thanks to soldiers like Master Sgt. Emigdio E. Elizarraras and Cpl. Paul Davis. These are the true hero's that keep us all free. My God rest their souls..

Well gang Jack is now sitting in prison hand writing his stupidity and snail mailing it to his cyberlover Lynn Thomas. BTW Jack we want everyone to know that you were the primary reason why all cell and sat phones were confiscated. You just do not know when to shut your mouth. Hey Jack here is more good news for you! As we reported several blogs ago.....LOL!

As you can now see Jack's proxy Lynn Thomas is lost... Her latest writings just show how much she does not understand the Afghan geo-political situation. Whats the matter Lynn lost without your hero-boy doing your writings?

Worse than that is a posting we received from Donald Orum a/k/a Kender:

"Kender said... I wonder how Carabello will treat his daughter when he gets home. Will he make her wear a burka? Will he forbid her from leaving the house without a male relative? Will he dare denounce Islam and become an apostate?I can't wait to see how this unfolds. BTW, calling Jack a jerk so forcefully makes it seem like you are being a petulant ass. March 02, 2006 1:01 AM."

Don old chap this posting just shows how ignorant and uneducated you really are. While taking a shot at Caraballo and his daughter is about as low as one can get! Caraballo's converting to Islam is basically none of your business. While it shows how much of a Christian you really are not. But this is the type of bird-brained, illiterate, imbecilic, besotted people that associate with Lynn Thomas, Cao's Blog and the Wideawakes Wingnutosphere! BTW Don... your posting proves the old saying "there are more horses-asses than horses" to be true.

So Junior Cape Crusaders we just can't wait for Jack to buy his Sat Phone privileges back! In the meantime Jack ....don't forget to write!

Bye-bye Sat Phones!

DISCOURAGED FORWARD! Junior Cape Crusaders Worldwide and our new trusty-side kick Award Winning Journalist Ed Caraballo!

Well Junior Cape Crusaders....remember the old saying...he who laughs last, laughs best! So let us start by saying....ROFLMAOWTIME!

Jackbo says "I have a question for the people at the other website who say ‘there goes your Sat Phone, Jackbo’ and things like that. If Jack were just a renegade wannabe fake SF guy, then how in the world is it possible that he has a SAT phone at all? How is it possible that entire families of Afghans are coming to his defense? How is it possible that they’re armed to the teeth to defend him? Your position on Jack not being what he claims to be seems to have completely gone up in smoke, considering what Karzai has attempted to do (move Al Qaeda into his cell block [failed] and take away his phones [failed])."

Because Jack you pay off General Fahim's people thats why. You have lost your privileges many times and in times of these losses you have proxies play the part to make it look like your still operational. But its like we said Jack you just ain't getting this! Neither is Lynn Thomas your proxy! You just don't know when to shut that big lying foul mouth of yours. So we helped shut it for you.

As we told you it would happen!

Security to Be Tightened at Afghan Prison

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) - Authorities pledged to push ahead with plans to improve security at Kabul's main prison, even though earlier moves to do so sparked a four-day riot that left six people dead and dozens wounded, officials said Thursday. Prisoners will be forced to trade their civilian clothes for blue prison uniforms and visitors will no longer be able to mix freely with the inmates, said Abdul Salaam Bakshi, chief of prisons in Afghanistan.

Inmates at Policharki jail went on a rampage last Saturday after refusing new prison uniforms that were being introduced after some Taliban inmates escaped in December by disguising themselves as visitors.``Of course, we are going to make all the prisoners wear uniforms and we will build special visitors' rooms with wire-mesh screens dividing the two sides,'' Bakshi said.He doubted whether the move would prompt the prisoners to riot again.``Everything is safe and peaceful at the jail now,'' he said.

The uprising ended Wednesday with the 1,300 rioting prisoners surrendering and being moved from a wrecked wing of the jail to a new block. A hardcore group of about 100 al-Qaida and Taliban detainees, who were blamed for inciting the violence, were confined to higher-security quarters. Reporters were allowed into the prison late Wednesday, but couldn't talk to inmates. One wrecked, three-story prison block was dark and empty, its walls riddled from bullets. Bakshi refused a request by journalists at Thursday's news conference for an extended tour of the facility and to be allowed to talk to the inmates. He said it was against their rights and would violate Afghan law.

Many of the prisoners, including three Americans detained there, had mobile phones with them, but Mohammed Qasim Hashimzai, the deputy justice minister, said they had all been confiscated. One of the Americans, Edward Caraballo, had used his phone to call the media and claim some prisoners had threatened to kill him.Hashimzai, though, said no threat was made against Caraballo. Efforts to contact the American on Thursday were unsuccessful [Bye-bye Sat phones big mouth..tough guy!].

The three U.S. citizens were convicted last year of running a private jail in Kabul as part of a freelance hunt for terrorists. The uprising was the second in just over a year at the jail. The last one in December 2004 left eight people dead, four of them guards. The unrest at Policharki, which was built on the outskirts of the Afghan capital in the 1970s and is notorious for harsh and crowded conditions, has shaken what little confidence remained in its ability to keep its 2,000 prisoners under control.

Some of the prison blocks are being renovated ahead of the expected arrival of some 110 Afghan terror suspects later this year from the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, but there has been little work on the rest of the facility. 03/02/06 06:22 EST

Let us say this one more time Jackbo! Your a renegade wannabe fake SF guy and a LIAR! So is Lynn Thomas...BTW Thomas wrong ID on SoJ! LOL! DOLT!

Caraballo trumps Idema!

DISCOURAGED FORWARD! Junior Cape Crusaders Worldwide and our new trusty-side kick Award Winning Journalist Ed Caraballo!

Oh Jack can't stand it! Ed Caraballo trumped him on CNN! LOL! Whats the matter JackLynn can't stand that Caraballo got prime time over you? LOL! What Jackbo mad that Ed got on Anderson Cooper over you? Think Cooper is a nutcase to give you airtime! LOL!

The only thing we have to say is that Peter Bergen is correct its a complicated story alright. One Peter Bergen has no clue to.....Hey Bergen! Mr. Terrorism HotShot! How can you go on TV spitting this out and then tell others that everytime Jack opened his mouth you knew he was lying? Nice going Bergen....... Lets start by asking you this question. how does Jack Idema get a entry permit saying is and NGE Gary Scurka are DoD Contracting Officers? So Bergen besides your academic ego who in the Afghan Government did you speak too? USG? Bergen maybe you should stay as Professor Bergen and let the professionals do the reporting......

Anyway here is the CNN Transcript!

ANDERSON COOPER 360 DEGREES
Interview With American Trapped in Afghan Prison Riot; New Orleans Celebrates Mardi Gras; Where Has Katrina Relief Money Gone?
Aired February 28, 2006 - 22:00 ET

THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.

ANDERSON COOPER, CNN ANCHOR: And good evening, everyone. Thanks for joining us. Larry, even back in New York, they are getting into the spirit. Take a look -- The Empire State Building done up in the colors of Mardi Gras. It brings back a lot of memories, good ones, of course, also the scene on Bourbon Street, one small slice here of life in New Orleans. Bourbon Street is packed. In about three hours from now -- or two hours from now, the police will clear it. But, as for now, the party is in full swing, the scene, that Empire State Building, reminds us of all the New York City firefighters and police and doctors who came down here to New Orleans to be part of what turned into a national outpouring of health and kindness and goodwill. It's also really a reminder of how interconnected people have become and how little distance matters anymore. There's a flip side to that notion, of course.

I got a dramatic and chilling phone call today from an American, a former colleague of mine, who is in an Afghan prison, caught in the middle of a prison riot and fearing for his life. His name is Ed Caraballo. And you will hear that call in just a moment. How he got there, however, in the middle of danger, in a prison on the outskirts of Kabul is in a story of itself.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE) COOPER (voice-over): Pulacharke prison, it looks medieval, but was built when the Soviets occupied Afghanistan in the 1970s. The conditions inside, according to a U.N. report a couple of years ago, some of the worst on Earth. We don't know how many prisoners are actually in there. But we're told some 300 of them are members of the Taliban or al Qaeda. They began rioting over the weekend, after being told they were going to have to wear prison uniforms. Inside the prison, along with the rioters, veteran American cameraman Ed Caraballo.

RICHARD CARABALLO, BROTHER OF ED CARABALLO: The project that he was working on was a documentary on the war on terror.
COOPER: But Caraballo went to Afghanistan with Keith "Jack" Idema. Idema, a former soldier, billed himself as a counterterrorism consultant, but had a checkered past. Idema claimed he and his assistant, Brent Bennett, were working with the U.S. and Afghan governments to track down terrorists, which the U.S. government denies. But the Afghan government said Idema, who had named his group Task Force Saber 7, was acting on his own, running his own private prison. All three men were arrested, tried and convicted. After appeal, Caraballo got a two-year sentence. His brother says he didn't get a fair trial.

R. CARABALLO: He's just a -- a filmmaker shooting a film.
COOPER: Idema was able to run this Web site from his cell, actually giving updates on the riot. Caraballo gave up the relative comfort of that cell and began distancing himself from Idema. He converted to Islam and moved to a different cell block, home that was taken over by the rioters. R. CARABALLO: I'm worried sick.
COOPER: Richard Caraballo is worried about his brother, worried that, despite Ed's conversion to Islam, he will be targeted by some of the prisoners who want to send a message to the Americans.
R. CARABALLO: He's -- he's the perfect brother. Through rough -- rough times in life, he has been there for me. And I have tried to do the same for him.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

COOPER: I worked with Ed Caraballo for years at ABC. He has never shied away from the hot spots. And this is certainly one of them. He's a long way from home, in the wake of rioting, barricaded against other prisoners, some of whom may wish to hurt him. He is under stress, to say the least, and possibly under duress, from people or forces unknown. Keep that in mind for the next few minutes, as we play back Ed's call to me earlier today.

(BEGIN VIDEOTAPE)

EDWARD CARABALLO, JOURNALIST: They rioted and took prisoner two officers, women, wives of two police officers. And, yesterday, they -- I believe, today, they released those hostages. And, also, they out the wounded. There were four people killed, three people killed in block two and one person killed here.
COOPER: And -- and where are you right now? What is your situation?
E. CARABALLO: I'm in my room. I have a private room that the Afghan police provided me with, because I'm an American, and there has been many threats against my life here. So, they keep me pretty well protected.
COOPER: And -- and you're literally barricaded in your room right now?
E. CARABALLO: That's correct, Anderson.
COOPER: What happens? I mean, what happens now? Are you -- obviously, your life is in danger.
E. CARABALLO: Well, I have been -- I have been -- they..
COOPER: Are they threatening you?
E. CARABALLO: At first, when -- when they first took over this block, and the police (AUDIO GAP) calmed them down, they shot some of the -- they shot into the (AUDIO GAP) more upset, and they ripped down all the gates. So, all the -- all the floors are open to all -- you know, the gates are all open. Every -- the prisoners are all walking around, heavily armed, with chains and knives and whatever they can -- they have to -- to fight. And now they're afraid that the police are going to storm in and kill more people. So, today, you know...(CROSSTALK)
COOPER: The...
E. CARABALLO: You know, I had been walking -- I had been walking a -- a thin line, Anderson, because everybody -- you know, all the prisoners know I have a mobile. And I have been letting whoever, whatever prisoner call -- call their family to let them know they're OK. And that has been able to -- so, I have been able to keep my mobile. They sort of see me as one of them, so, because I'm Muslim, so, they -- they haven't bothered me. But they -- they said, it's nothing personal, najib (ph). You know, we know you're our brother, but you -- we want to talk to the American ambassador.
COOPER: What -- what is it that they want the Americans to do or the American ambassador to know?
E. CARABALLO: They want to stress that they were not trying to escape. They were just protesting conditions here.
COOPER: The last report that we had was that Afghan units had actually pulled back from the perimeter of -- of the prison. It didn't look like -- according to this last report I read, it didn't look like that they were going to try to move in. Have you seen any efforts to regain control of the prison?
E. CARABALLO: No. I -- I -- and the American -- the American authorities -- I have spoken to the U.S. consul, Adrian Harchek (ph). I have been in contact with her constantly throughout the past couple of days. She has done a really good job at keeping me safe. But she says the Americans can't extract me, that that's not their -- their job. It's up to the Afghans.
COOPER: Well, how much more do you have on your sentence, Ed?
E. CARABALLO: Four months.
COOPER: It is said that there are many al Qaeda prisoners in this prison. Is that the case? I mean, can you describe what that is like?
E. CARABALLO: Well, there are two blocks, block one, which has the criminal side, and block two, which has the al Qaeda, political criminals. And it's block two that started the uprising. And they're in communication (AUDIO GAP) this block and that block, in communication just by yelling from (AUDIO GAP) floor to each other.
COOPER: How close are you to the al Qaeda prisoners?
E. CARABALLO: Right outside my door, Anderson.
COOPER: They're right at your door?
E. CARABALLO: That's correct.
COOPER: What do you want people to know, Ed?
E. CARABALLO: Well, I want people to know that...(LAUGHTER)
E. CARABALLO: I don't know. I -- I just want to just -- I -- I would say to the American forces or any -- or the Afghan forces that they should not storm the prison at this point. The prisoners just want to get their message across, and they have asked me to do that for them. So, I'm calling -- I'm allowing the media to call me and ask me any questions they have.
COOPER: Is -- is there anything else you -- you want to get across?
E. CARABALLO: I love my family very much. And tell them I'm safe right now. (LAUGHTER) E. CARABALLO: And I don't blame anybody for this, if anything happens to me. I just -- I'm just a journalist that -- in the wrong place at the wrong time, I guess.

(END VIDEOTAPE)

COOPER: With us now in Washington, Peter Bergen, CNN terrorism -- terrorism analyst. Peter has actually been to the prison. Peter is the author of the book "Osama" -- "The Osama bin Laden I Know: An Oral History of the World's Most Wanted Man."Peter, you have been to this prison. What is it like?

PETER BERGEN, CNN TERRORISM ANALYST: Well, it's pretty dreadful. I -- I actually spent a fair amount of time with Ed Caraballo and Idema and Brent Bennett on two occasions, in October of 2004 and January of 2005. And one of the things that disturbed me my first trip there was that we were in a -- a waiting room in which people were coming and going. And, at one point, we were told to leave, you know, worrying for our safety. There were Taliban, al Qaeda in the prison block. And, then, a month later -- actually in December, there was a very serious riot there, Anderson, as you may recall, in which the Americans in the prison were targeted. Four members of al Qaeda, one an Iraqi and three Pakistanis, were shot to death in that much smaller riot, which was really directed at the Americans. But this is an extremely dangerous prison, where there have been riots before. And we're seeing, again, a -- a very worrisome situation for the prisoners, and particularly the Americans, in the prison.
COOPER: What was Ed Caraballo doing, and what was this guy Keith Idema doing?
BERGEN: Well, I mean, that is a -- a complicated tale. According to the United States and the Afghan governments, they were running some sort of freelance operation with a private prison in Kabul. I wrote a piece for "Rolling Stone," looking at some of those allegations. And I have got the tell you that I -- having gone into it thinking that there was some truth to these allegations, I came away thinking the picture was much more complicated, that the U.S. government, elements of it, did know what the Americans were doing. They certainly had some say-so from fairly senior Afghan officials that what they were doing was the right thing. And, also, they were finding terrorists. And, then, the trial that actually ensued was in -- was pretty farcical. It was not a -- you know, the sort of trial that you would get in the United States. Certainly, the Afghan judicial system is very weak. Their trial -- the sentences of these guys were very high, initially 10 years each, in the case of Idema and Bennett, eight years for Caraballo. They have been reduced. As Ed said to you in the phone call just now, his -- he has only got four months to go. It would be a horrible tragedy if something were to go wrong so near the finish line for him. He has already had to put up with so much already.
COOPER: I -- I found it incredibly chilling when I asked him where the al Qaeda prisoners were, and he said they were right outside his door.
BERGEN: No doubt. I mean, I -- I went through some of those cells. And some of the people that I saw, they all looked like, you know, Mullah Omar's brother. It was clearly -- there were a lot of Taliban in the prison. You mentioned the figure 300. I think that's a good one. And these are -- this is the most hard-core prison in the Afghan prison system. This is the sort of -- the Florence, Colorado, or the Fort Leavenworth of the Afghan prison system, except that it's -- doesn't really have the security that's needed. And, you know, the Afghan state obviously can't really sustain this prison. It's -- it's just not working at the moment.
COOPER: Peter Bergen, appreciate you joining us. Thanks for your perspective.

UPDATE! Jack your so full of it!

Afghanistan prison riot 'is over'

The stand-off lasted for several days Afghan police have regained control of the notorious Pul-e-Charkhi jail in the capital, Kabul, the government says. "The agitation is over," Deputy Justice Minister Mohammad Qasim Hashmizai told journalists outside the jail. "Police are in full control."

The riot began on Saturday with inmates demanding better conditions. At least five deaths have been reported. Thousands of Afghans disappeared or were tortured in the jail during Afghanistan's communist era. Mr Hashmizai said one body was found as some 1,300 prisoners involved in the rioting were moved under police escort to a new prison block.
Four inmates reportedly died earlier this week and a number of injured prisoners have been taken to hospital. At least 300 of the rioters were Taleban and al-Qaeda militants, officials said.
Notorious prison Trouble started on Saturday evening, apparently sparked by a change in prison uniform rules. Pul-e-Charkhi is a huge prison complex built in the 1970s on the outskirts of the capital.

The vast and run-down jail is notorious for disappearances and torture during the communist era, correspondents say. In January, seven Taleban suspects escaped from the jail, with prison guards accused by officials of helping the break-out. Following the escape, prison authorities ordered inmates to wear bright orange uniforms.

End of UPDATE!

US Afghan inmate says Taliban threaten to behead him

KABUL (Reuters) - An American journalist inmate at an Afghan jail block seized by prisoners said Taliban militants held there threatened on Tuesday to behead him and told him he would die if an attempt were made to end the siege by force.

Emmy award-winning documentary maker Edward Caraballo, 44, from New York, was one of three Americans jailed in 2004 after being convicted of running a private jail and illegally detaining and torturing men in a freelance war on terror.

Speaking by mobile phone from Pul-i-Charkhi jail on the outskirts of Kabul, Caraballo told Reuters he was barricaded in his room in block one of the prison, parts of which were overrun by inmates on Saturday night.
He said some prisoners in the block were protecting him but others, who said they were Taliban militants, had threatened to kill him if their demands were not met.

"I'm not letting anyone in, and I am not going out," said Caraballo who sounded frightened. "I have told the U.S. embassy that they want to speak to the ambassador and President Karzai on the phone to tell them their demands. I was told that if they don't do that and they don't want to talk to these people, then they will cut my head off."

"Right after I spoke to the embassy, four of them walked into my room and very calmly, very matter-of-factly, said this is not anything personal against you, but we have grievances that we want to get across to somebody in charge."
The men who threatened him said they were Taliban, not al Qaeda militants, he said. They had said authorities should not attempt to storm the jail.

"They said there would be a lot of bloodshed and I would be one of the first to go," he said.
Caraballo said his two-year sentence expired in four months and all he wanted to do was to return home and see his daughter.

"PLEASE, PLEASE, DO NOT STORM"

"My recommendation to the U.S. government and Afghan police force is please, please, do not storm at this time; just keep the negotiations going and please do not attack us," he said.

Caraballo was contacted in the prison on a mobile phone number that a diplomat confirmed belonged to the prisoner.
He said he had spoken to the U.S. embassy and asked for assistance, but had been told: "They cannot extract me, it is not their business, and it's in the Afghan's hands".

Caraballo said he had been nicked in the side by a bullet or a piece of shrapnel when police opened fire in the prison at the start of the siege, when he had been trying to run back to his cell. He said he was not badly hurt.
"It's a nick; it's really nothing," he said. "It was not intentional. The police have been very good in trying to protect me -- it was just friendly fire."

He said he was now feeling unwell had had been vomiting frequently and questioned whether his food had been poisoned.

Caraballo said that since the siege began he had been treading a thin line between being one of the protesting prisoners and "being a hostage, because the first thing they said was 'Get the American and get his phone'".
He said there were about five different factions among the prisoners, one of which was trying to protect him.
Caraballo said one of the men who had threatened him had said their only demand was not to be prosecuted for the uprising because the police had started it and killed their comrades.

Four prisoners were killed in attempts to subdue the riot.

The two Americans jailed with Caraballo -- Former U.S. Green Beret Jonathan "Jack" Idema and another ex-serviceman, Brent Bennett -- are in the same prison but in a separate block, where they were not thought to be in danger.

The two, given 10-year terms at their trial, said then that Caraballo had been just a journalist filming their activities.

Asked to comment on Caraballo's status, U.S. embassy spokesman Lou Fintor read a statement saying that in the absence of Privacy Act Waivers, U.S. law prohibited the embassy from providing specific information about Americans at Pul-i-Charkhi.

"We are aware of media reports but are not in a position to confirm anything at this time," it said. "We are continuing to closely monitor the situation at Pul-i-Charkhi prison and are in regular contact with Afghan authorities. We would like to see the government of Afghanistan resolve this situation in a peaceful manner."

Mawlavi Mohammad Siddiqi, a cleric who was one of those held by Idema's vigilante group and is now acting as a mediator in the prison standoff, told reporters Idema was not in danger, but Caraballo was "not in a good place".
